Lab Supervisor & News

Dr. N M Refat Nasher

Dr. N M Refat Nasher

Professor & Lab Supervisor

Department of Geography and Environment, Jagannath University

Dr. N M Refat Nasher is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography & Environment at Jagannath University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Environmental Science from Kobe University, Japan, and both M.Sc. and B.Sc. degrees in Geography & Environment from the University of Dhaka.

Dr. Nasher’s interdisciplinary research spans the fields of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, hydro-geochemistry, environmental risk assessment, and climate change impact studies. His work focuses particularly on environmental monitoring and water resource management in vulnerable ecosystems across South Asia.

With over 25 peer-reviewed publications to his name, Dr. Nasher has made notable contributions to remote sensing-based ecological assessment, including pioneering work on the Remote Sensing Ecological Index (RSEI) in urban settings, satellite-derived drought analysis, and the application of AI and deep learning for river flow forecasting. His current research investigates water use efficiency and drought dynamics using MODIS time-series data, and he has led studies on creek water contamination in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and heavy metal pollution in urban lakes.

In addition to his research, Dr. Nasher serves as a dedicated mentor, supervising MSc and BSc theses in environmental science and GIS. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and East West University, contributing to graduate-level teaching and collaborative research.

Dr. Nasher's work supports the advancement of data-driven environmental planning and sustainable resource management in the context of climate change. His scholarly efforts continue to inform national policy, improve urban ecological resilience, and promote scientific innovation through cross-disciplinary research and education
